Semester 1 Final: Master Artist- Eileen Gray- Mediterranee
About Eileen Gray
Eileen Gray was an influential artist, designer, and architect born in Ireland in 1878, and died in 1976. She studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London and later learned Japanese lacquer techniques in Paris. Gray’s work combined traditional methods with modern design, and she is known for her innovative furniture and architectural designs. One of her notable paintings, “Méditerranée,” features geometric patterns and a harmonious color palette. Gray’s legacy continues to inspire the art and design world today.
As to the construction of turning "Mediterranee" into 3d form, i had already envisoned as to what i need to make. A rectangle slab i had to roll out. with exess clay from cutting the rectangle, i was able to cut out an open hole circle, a line, and a small open hole oval. I had to get more clay to get the the half square piece on the bottem left as well as a half open circle, then i had to make the slim long triangle, and the cloud shape at the top with the lines cut into it. At the end when i had it all together i just underglazed it, using blue, black, and some white underglazes

As to why i picked Eileen Gray and her "Mediterranee" art was that the colors is what picked my attention. I love the color blue and how geometric the piece was and already knew I would have fun turning it into a 3d work.

I was happy with how it turned out overall, it's just that i had some bad luck and ended up breaking it in half, but no worries because I superglued it back together for it to be presented in class.
